Replacing a Memo Field with a User Defined Grid in Deltek Vision

The standard memo field or a new User Defined Grid both contain the same information, date, employee entering the note and the memo. Using the standard memo field, you have the text editor but there isn’t a format for the person making the entry to follow. Some entries have a date, others don’t; some have the employee’s name, others might not. By replacing this field with a User Defined Grid, not only do you have the text editor but you have lookups to the employees as well as the ability to sort the data by date or by employee. The grid style encourages more complete information. You can also make the fields required to ensure that all information is captured.

By using the Tab Designer, you can move the Memo field down far enough that employees won’t see it.

This is a screen shot of the Project Report using the default Memo field. Compare this to the screen shot below. The User Defined grid not only makes entering data easier but reporting on the data much clearer. So, even though both fields contain the same basis information, the report shown below is much easier to read and makes clearer notes for the Project Manager.
